Hato Hone St John has been at the forefront of serving New Zealanders and saving lives since 1885. Our Ambulance Services and community programs are helping to build strong, resilient communities across the motu.

Our Animal-Assisted Therapy program promotes emotional wellbeing and provides comfort through contact with gentle animals. The Therapy Pets program is a voluntary initiative that enhances the lives of others.

We are seeking a driven individual to become a Therapy Pet Team Leader for our Palmerston North team. As a key member of our team, you will:

Responsibilities
  • Support and mentor the team of Therapy Pet Volunteers
  • Recruit new volunteers and match them with suitable pets and facilities
  • Liaise with facilities visited by volunteers
  • Monthly reporting and communication with local St John teams
  • Organize recognition events and team connections

This role requires a minimum commitment of 2-3 hours per week. You have the option to join the Therapy Pet volunteers with your pet, but this is not mandatory.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Excellent communication skills and an empathetic personality
  • Previous experience in team management
  • A genuine interest in the well-being of others and love of animals
  • Over 18 years of age
  • Clean criminal record
