**Job Summary**

We are seeking an experienced Senior Conservation Planning Advisor to join our team at the Department of Conservation (DOC). In this role, you will play a critical part in developing strategic direction for the protection of our special places and species for future generations.

**About the Role**

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their leadership skills and help the team navigate complex issues and support strategic engagement with Treaty partners and stakeholders. You will work alongside the Team Leader/Manager to provide quality advice, build and maintain effective relationships, train and mentor staff, and contribute to an inclusive and respectful team environment.

**Key Responsibilities**

You will be working on preparing statutory planning documents that provide direction for how public conservation lands and waters will be managed. These documents include conservation management strategies, national park plans, and conservation management plans. You will also work with external statutory bodies, including conservation boards, the New Zealand Conservation Authority, and the Minister of Conservation.

**Requirements**

To be successful in this role, you will need strong analytical and organisational ability, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a background in planning, policy, legal, resource management, or stakeholder engagement. Experience working with tangata whenua and understanding of te ao Māori would be an advantage.
