About the Role
Auckland Council is seeking a highly skilled Senior Healthy Waters Specialist to join its Stormwater Quality team. As a key member of this team, you will play a pivotal role in addressing water quality issues across the Auckland Region.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with expertise in Water Quality Science and modelling to lead the development and improvement of scientific methods and tools to understand and predict stormwater quality impacts and evaluate management strategies.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing expert advice and technical input into policy, strategy, planning, regulatory, and infrastructure decisions related to stormwater quality management. You will work closely with teams within the HW&FR department and across the organisation to develop and implement effective solutions.

We are looking for someone with a strong background in Water Quality/Limnology/Environmental Geochemistry or science, and/or Modelling, as well as 7+ years relevant work experience in water quality (Freshwater/Coastal) modelling, with 4 of those years in the stormwater industry or research.

If you have a proven track record of innovation and effective leadership in project and programme management, excellent customer rapport and communication skills, combined with your interpersonal abilities, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Co-lead the development and improvement of scientific methods and tools to understand and predict stormwater quality impacts and evaluate management strategies.
  • Provide expert advice and technical input into policy, strategy, planning, regulatory, and infrastructure decisions related to stormwater quality management.
  • Support and promote continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
  • Oversee water quality data management and generate intelligence on recreational water quality issues.
