About the Role

This one-year fellowship position offers a unique opportunity to develop your skills in General Gastroenterology, Endoscopy, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) at Dunedin Hospital/University of Otago.

You will work closely with the Clinical Director, Consultant Physicians, Registrar, Clinical Nurse specialists, and Nurse Practitioner to provide an efficient and high-quality service. As a Fellow, you will be responsible for conducting research, providing in- and outpatient specialist services, and participating in rural clinics and endoscopy procedures.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to hone their specialist skills under supervision before becoming fully vocationally registered. This role is ideal for those looking to transition from registrar working under supervision to specialist providing supervision to junior staff.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to be in your last six months of Gastroenterology advanced training. As a team player with exceptional interpersonal skills, you will build effective relationships within and external to your team. You should also possess excellent decision-making and priority-setting skills in a clinical environment.

Apart from your clinical expertise, you should demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and passing on your knowledge to junior members of staff and university students. Additionally, you should be able to supervise more junior medical staff within the Unit and educate them in clinical management and procedural techniques where appropriate.

Te Whatu Ora - Southern has the largest geographical coverage of all the New Zealand regions, providing services to 350,000 people in diverse communities. Our Department of Gastroenterology offers an in- and out-patient service, catering to approximately 1000 patients with inflammatory bowel diseases and chronic liver disease, undertaking 5000 endoscopic procedures, and staffing clinics in various rural hospitals.

Salary

This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement Fellow Scale, which equates to $179,480 annually.
