The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled leader to join our Resource Consents team. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for leading a passionate and small team of RMA professionals, providing planning advice to the public, consultants, and the organisation, and maintaining a healthy team environment.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Lead a small team of RMA professionals, providing guidance and support as needed.
- Provide technical expertise and advice on Resource Consents and RMA Planning matters.
- Maintain a healthy team environment, promoting collaboration and open communication.
- Help manage an average of 50-60 applications per month, ensuring efficient processing and decision-making.
- Mentor the team with a technical lens, ensuring a consistent approach when interpreting the District Plan.
- Stay abreast of legislative changes affecting the RMA team, adapting processes and procedures as needed.
- Develop tools and processes to support efficient working, driving customer-focused improvement projects related to the District Plan team.
- Review District Plan changes from a 'user' perspective, identifying areas for improvement.
- Conduct cross-department training on RMA and the District Plan, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Additionally, you'll need:
- Expert knowledge of the Resource Management Act and at least 10 years of experience in resource consent processing within a New Zealand territorial authority.
- A solid understanding of legal processes and their application.
- A developed leadership style with a passion for professional development.
- The ability to effectively influence others through strong working relationships and clear, well-thought-out advice.
- Environment Court experience.
- Experience in facilitating successful win-win outcomes with a strong focus on issue resolution.
- The ability to operate effectively under pressure.
- Excellent risk assessment and proactive management skills.
- Full NZPI membership, or a commitment to pursuing full membership.
- A BPlan, BREP, or similar degree-level qualification related to Planning.
