**About the Role**
We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Heteri A Nuku programme participant. This unique one-year work-based programme is designed to prepare our next generation of Maori Leaders in environmental and conservation work.
The programme aims to nurture and inspire future Kaitiaki by providing a holistic and immersive learning experience that is underpinned by tikanga Maori. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in areas such as health, safety, and wellbeing, te ao Maori wananga, field operations, corporate components, and specialized training.
You will be part of a dynamic team working towards creating an inclusive workplace culture. Our Te Kaupapa behaviours of whakatinanatia (we deliver), atawhaitia a Papatuanuku (we love nature), whakawhanaungatanga (we build relationships), and whakaauaha (we innovate) guide what we need to do for Papatuanuku to thrive.
As a sustainable development professional, you will have the chance to contribute to the Department of Conservation's vision of nature thriving in Aotearoa. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to achieve this goal.
**Key Responsibilities**
- To develop and implement effective strategies for conservation and environmental work

**Requirements**
- A strong connection to te ao Maori
- Whanaungatanga – the ability to foster and develop relationships with colleagues, public, and our Te Tiriti partners
- Kaitiakitanga – a keen interest to be Kaitiaki of Te Ao Turoa
- Confident use of Microsoft Suite
- Able to effectively work autonomously and in a team environment
- Flexibility to work outside normal office hours
- Flexibility to work away from home for up to five working days
- A valid New Zealand driver license or ability to get before the programme starts
