Job Description:
The Matanga Oranga Therapist is an advanced Kaupapa Maori, trauma-informed care specialist based in Glen Eden. In collaboration with the lead therapist, you will deliver our holistic, wairua-driven care model, coordinating care for specific whanau/clients across West Auckland. This role is a 6-month fixed-term position.
You will ensure safety protocols for both staff and whanau, manage trauma care for whanau, and liaise with Visionwest services and external agencies as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and manage your clinical practice, providing crisis intervention, counselling, and advocacy for whanau experiencing significant historical and/or current trauma and family harm.
- Provide training and workforce development as a Subject Matter Expert in trauma and abuse to Visionwest service teams.
- Foster effective teamwork and build strong, collaborative relationships with the multidisciplinary Huia Mai team.
- Participate in clinical supervision as required.
- Maintain a professional clinical portfolio and ensure compliance with annual practice registration.
- Meet regularly with the Matanga Oranga Lead Therapist and Pou Arahi Whanau Services.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An undergraduate qualification in professional counselling with full, current registration from a relevant professional body.
- A solid understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (Treaty of Waitangi) and its implications for clinical care.
- Lived experience and knowledge of Te Ao Maori and Maori approaches to specialised care.
- Expertise in family harm and trauma care.
- Experience working with healthcare providers, community organisations, and agencies.
- Familiarity with quality reporting and data recording systems.
