Job Description

Museums Aotearoa seeks a highly experienced and skilled professional to lead our collections team.

This is a key leadership role that will oversee the care, accessibility, and management of our museum's collections.

  • The successful candidate will have a post-graduate qualification in Museum Studies or a similar relevant field.
  • At least five years' experience in collection management, with a proven track record of leading teams through change.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills are essential, as well as experience in planning and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Care and accessibility of the museum's collections.
  • Leadership and management of the collections team.
  • Developing and implementing strategies for collection management.
  • Coordinating and influencing activities across the organisation.

Requirements

  • A creative approach to engagement and access for our visitors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Authority and flexibility in coordinating and influencing activities.
  • Ability to develop strategy and manage its implementation.
Key Skills and Qualifications

Technical Requirements

  • Technical understanding of information and web-based systems.
  • Experience working with collections with prescribed storage needs.

Personal Attributes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel within New Zealand occasionally.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings when requested.
  • Ability to perform physical duties as required.
