The Forensic Coordination Service – Intellectual Disability coordinates the safe management of individuals with intellectual disabilities and provides a pathway for offenders away from the criminal justice and mental health systems towards more appropriate disability services.
Our Approach:
- We take a person-centered approach, ensuring that each individual's needs are respected and their expectations are met.
- We work collaboratively with individuals, their families, and caregivers to develop personalized care plans that meet their assessed and prioritized needs.
- We provide training and support to our staff to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge needed to effectively work with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with the disability community and frontline client care experience with Intellectual Disability clients.
- Proven knowledge of relevant legislation such as the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act 2003 and The Criminal Procedure (Mentally Impaired Persons) Act 2003.
- Experience using facilitation and problem-solving strategies to work collaboratively with others both internally and externally.
