**Company Overview**

New Zealand Customs Service is a key agency of the New Zealand Government responsible for protecting and promoting New Zealand's interests in the maritime border environment. Our actions are informed by Rautaki Mana Arai (Customs Strategy), the Maritime Security Strategy, and the Transnational Organised Crime Strategy.

**Job Description**
We have several new opportunities available within the Customs Maritime Unit (CMU) based in Auckland for Senior Customs Officers (SCO G1). As a Senior Customs Officer (Grade 1) in the Auckland CMU team, you will be supporting your Supervising Customs Officer and Senior Customs Officers (Grade 2) in providing coaching, mentoring, and contributing to the development of our people.**Key Responsibilities**
  • Facilitate cruise ship passenger arrivals and departures, clearing vessels, and assessing them for risk
  • Process passengers/crew and goods in/out of Aotearoa which can include search activity
  • Facilitate legitimate trade and travel, collect import and export duties
  • Intercept contraband (such as drugs and weapons), investigate, and prosecute offences through sea and land patrol, surveillance, and search activity

**Requirements**

  • Able to coach and mentor others
  • Knowledge of risks to the border, along with the ability to understand and interpret legislation relevant to Customs work, Customs procedures, and policies
  • Problem-solving capability, including the ability to identify, manage, or mitigate risks and consider innovative solutions
  • Able to work flexible hours, up to 120 days away from home per year, and to work and travel at short notice, and be on call
