About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Policy Advisor to join our team at the Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai (DOC). As a key member of our Policy Directorate, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and influencing policy that drives transformational change in Aotearoa's conservation sector.

**Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop robust and strategic policy advice for senior leaders and the Minister.
  • Lead consultations and negotiations that represent Te Papa Atawhai and align with our strategic policy objectives.
  • Work on reform of the resource management system and existing RMA policy, climate change policy with an emphasis on nature-based solutions, or policy related to managing and protecting public conservation land while providing for commercial activities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong policy analysis skills, including experience with legislative processes.
  • Proven experience leading complex project-based policy work in a pragmatic and agile way.
  • Well-developed stakeholder management skills, including involvement in public consultation processes.
  • Ability to mentor and manaaki other colleagues in their work.
  • Cultural awareness – understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi including the willingness to engage in Te Ao Maori concepts and/or understanding tikanga Maori.
