Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to fill the role of Resource Teacher of the Deaf in South Auckland.

Main Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will work closely with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, providing support and resources to ensure they reach their full potential.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to support students with hearing impairments in mainstream schools and kura kaupapa Māori/mana Māori early childhood/kōhanga reo settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers, whānau, and school staff to provide coordinated support for students with hearing impairments.
  • Travel to designated caseload areas to work with students, families, and school staff to enhance student participation and success in education and life outcomes.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with deaf children and/or mainstream children.
  • Qualified teacher of the deaf or an experienced NZ registered teacher.
  • Current, clean driver's licence.
  • Use of own car with mileage reimbursed.
  • Reside within easy access to the advertised region and be willing to travel within a designated caseload.
  • Demonstrate existing skills or willingness to develop proficiency in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and listening and spoken language practices for DHH learners.
