Procurement Strategist

The role of General Manager, New Zealand Government Procurement (NZGP), is a pivotal one within the New Zealand Government. The successful candidate will lead the NZGP Branch and be responsible for providing cross-government leadership and capability to achieve effective and efficient results from government procurement activities.
This includes delivering the All-of-Government procurement programme, providing policy advice on government procurement, and maintaining technical capabilities to respond to emerging procurement and all-of-government contract opportunities. The role will focus on building and enhancing the overall capability of the Government Procurement Branch to ensure quality and consistency of advice and practices in relation to government priorities and procurement activities.
Key skills and qualifications for this position include an ability to operate effectively as a public sector general manager, leading a large branch and delivering a significant work programme. The ideal candidate will be able to establish and build strong internal and external working relationships, including with ministers and senior officials. They will also possess demonstrated strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work through complex political situations with high ambiguity and under pressure.
