Job Description

We are hiring a Linux Kernel Technical Lead to lead technical teams in delivering and maintaining all Linux kernels provided by the Ubuntu Linux distribution.

The role involves leading distributed teams of software engineers in various aspects of kernel delivery, taking ownership of particular aspects of Ubuntu Linux, working with partners, and ensuring quality control standards.

You will mitigate security threats, engage with other teams, and develop strong process automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers in delivering and maintaining Linux kernels.
  • Take ownership of specific aspects of Ubuntu Linux, including working with partners and ensuring quality control standards.
  • Mitigate security threats and exploits to the Linux kernel.
  • Develop strong process automation for build, test, and delivery of Linux kernels.
  • Engage with other teams at Canonical, the open source community, and commercial partners.

Requirements

  • Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other like languages also highly regarded.
  • Substantial experience with operating system kernel internals and concepts, Linux highly regarded but not essential.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team of software engineers.
  • Ability to coordinate between multiple distinct teams to achieve common goals.
  • Familiarity with version control practices, ideally with git.
  • Prior experience developing with software packaging formats, with direct Ubuntu/Debian/Snap experience being highly regarded.
  • Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
