General Medicine Consultant role based in Whangarei, Northland Both full and part-time positions available Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Te Tai Tokerau Our Department of Medicine manages the needs of Northland's unique demographics, and with the expansion of our team we are looking for consultants to join us.

Te Whatu Ora - Te Tai Tokerau is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and holds stewardship for equitable health outcomes for Maori as Tangata Whenua as the highest priority.
We are looking for physicians to provide medical services within Northland; these are a combination of new and replacement roles and any subspecialty interest would be considered.
Existing specialties include: General and Acute medicine Rheumatology Respiratory Gastroenterology including a visiting hepatologist Neurology Cardiology Infectious Disease Endocrinology and diabetes Healthcare of the elderly Maternal Medicine Oncology and Haematology Renal medicine We have several new facilities including an assessment unit, endoscopy and cardiac catheter suite with the agreed funding for a new hospital which is currently in the planning stage.
The participants' roles will be divided into an off-ward role 66% of the time where elective work is undertaken and on wards 33% of the time managing inpatients.
The on-call rota means working approximately 6 weekends a year with a rostered day off after weekends.
Our department has a family feel with a positive culture, although a busy and challenging environment everyone looks after each other and has a real passion for what they do and why they do it.
Teaching and mentoring our 28 medical registrars are an important part of our work.

Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland providing secondary care services, supported by three regional hospitals in Kaitaia; Kawakawa, and Dargaville.
Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres with a growing population of more than 190,000.
The Department of Medicine provides acute medicine care; as well as outpatient/ non-acute/ elective inpatient care to the Northland community.
