Senior Solicitor (Prosecutions) | Whangarei03-Feb-2025MPI25/1840285WhangareiCategory: Legal (Solicitors/Investigators)Position Type: PermanentApplication Close Date: 09-Feb-2025Job DescriptionSenior Solicitor ProsecutionsRole type: Permanent, full-timeSalary band & range: General Salary Band D: $98,955 to $120,000 depending on skills and experienceWe are looking for a Senior Solicitor to join our highly skilled and collegial Prosecutions Team, responsible for providing operational legal advice and prosecution services on matters of non-compliance with legislation administered by MPI.A core part of the job will involve conducting the Ministry's prosecutions in the District Court in accordance with relevant policy and legislation.You will also have other responsibilities such as:Advising on the interpretation of statutory provisions and new legislationProviding legal advice on OIA requests and supporting business units with managing legal riskProviding operational improvement advice (e.g., search warrants and production orders)Supporting continuous improvement training of frontline compliance staff across MPIYou will ideally have completed relevant litigation skills training and possess a good level of trial and court experience equivalent to level 3 classification in the Classification of In-House Public Prosecutors' Framework.You will also need:Excellent written and oral skills with the ability to communicate with clients clearly and preciselyAbility to provide well-researched, contextualized, and solution-focused legal advice with options for managing any identified legal riskGood interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and build effective professional relationships with clients across MPIFull clean driving licence as the role requires some travel to regional courtsYou must have a current full New Zealand driver licence (not temporary, learner, or restricted), and any endorsements required for the type of driving you'll be doing.The northern team consists of one regional manager overseeing a team of seven prosecutors, geographically spread from Whangarei to Tauranga.
