JOB DESCRIPTION: KAYAK GUIDE / OCEAN EXPERT - TOURISM STAFF, WHANGAMATASurfsup New Zealand has been offering kayak and stand up paddleboard (SUP) tours in Whangamata since 2015. We offer tours of all levels and abilities to Whenuakura (Donut) Island.As a small company, we pride ourselves on the ability to provide unique, authentic, and intimate experiences in the area. Our dedicated team of professionals has an abundance of experience and knowledge of the local ecology, cultural history, and waterways, and we work closely with the community, Iwi, council, and schools in the area.We have an opening for a new staff member for the 2024 Season. The role requires a personable, energetic person, able to relate to customers from all sorts of backgrounds. With a passion for the ocean and tourism, the perfect candidate will be working independently and at times in a team.This position offers the possibility of a long-term contract or permanent position according to the development of the business, performance of the staff member, and qualifications.Wage: NZ$25 to 28/hour according to experience and qualifications. Yearly salary for the right candidate.Hours: Expected hours: weekends and weekdays, according to demand.Notes:Special opportunities for Certified Kayak Guides.Company car available.Report to management at the end of each day.Most of our kayak guided tours are 2-3 hours.We work weekends and public holidays.Payment: Timesheets must be filled by every Monday and credit will be made by every Thursday.Location: Whangamata, New ZealandKey RolesAdministrationAnswer emails and general questions from customers.MaintenanceCertify all premises and equipment are in current order.Make any necessary improvements to ensure the quality and safety of services being offered.Kayak GuidesAct as an environmental cultural ambassador for Whangamata Islands.Introduce customers to the basics of Ocean Kayaking including safety briefing.Offer customers comments about environmental and cultural aspects allowing customers to fully experience the local lifestyle.Be safety cautious, paying special attention to customers' needs.Follow and eventually improve the company's procedures to meet and exceed customers' expectations.Take bookings over the phone, online, and direct.Perform payments: direct credit, payclip, cash.Insert and read bookings on Google calendar.Inform Managers and guides/instructors about daily bookings.General Requirements:Sea Kayak Level 1 certification.Able to drive in NZ (Driver's license).Prioritize customer satisfaction.Basic knowledge about outdoor gear including surf, SUPs, and kayaks.Willingness to perform activities outdoors.Ability to communicate with other staff members in a clear and professional way.Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.Ability to work under pressure.Organized.Ability to drive with a trailer (not required).Please DO NOT apply if:Outdoors is not your passion.You are not available on weekends.You can't follow instructions.You are not well organized.You are not happy to work long weekends.Applicants must live or be willing to live in Whangamata.
