Pass it on.He angituatanga | About the roleThe Kaitiaki/Ranger is a crucial operational role which forms a close-knit team based in the Motueka District. You will be contributing to the meaningful mahi in both back and front-country as you assist the operations team deliver maintenance work in our visitor facilities in the Abel Tasman National Park. On occasion, you could also be deployed to work in other locations e.g. Kahurangi National Park, Mt Richmond Forest Park, etc.The position will be focused on maintenance of Visitor facilities which includes:Track cutting including use of scrub bars and chainsawsClearing water tables, culverts and improving drainage on tracksSmall excavator operationHut, building and structure maintenanceCleaning facilities to ensure they are presented to a high standardMowing lawns and spraying carparksCompliance of the Abel Tasman Coast Track Booking systemHeritage restoration and maintenance projectsInvolvement with volunteer and community groups on various projectsThis is a full-time, Monday to Friday role based in Marahau, but on occasion may involve living and working in remote locations for up to a week at a time with access via helicopter.Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experienceYou will have a positive, 'can do' attitude, be a total team player and enjoy working outdoors. You will be making a hands-on difference in the landscape of our back and front country facilities as you bring your practical field skills to the team. Ideally, you will display a high level of fitness, be strong enough to undertake a physical job, and enjoy working in the field in remote locations.If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:Passion for conservation with a practical approach to solve problemsExperience in the use of power equipment, specifically chainsaws and scrub barsNZ Boat Masters certificate, MNZ Skippers Restricted License or Inshore Launch Master, is desirable but not essentialCarpentry or construction experience (desirable)Self-motivated and can work independently and in a teamBack country skills and experienceStrong health and safety focusTech savvy, particularly using a range of mobile phone applicationsA current, full New Zealand driver license (HT licence is desirable)Nga ahuatanga kei a matou | What's in it for you?DOC places importance on developing a culture where everyone can participate, thrive, and grow.
