We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with Maori.
This includes our mandate to promote Maori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles.
Based in Poneke, Wellington, our Policy Puni leads across the public sector to understand and prioritise issues, needs and opportunities impacting on Maori development and wellbeing.
The Puni consists of 8 teams focusing on specific Policy areas.Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The opportunityMaori Sector Partnerships focuses on strengthening the Maori Sector by ensuring mechanisms and arrangements for Maori entities, organisations and institutions are fit for purpose.
This includes legislative reform relating to Maori Development.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Analyst, Policy to join this small, dynamic, professional team on a fixed term for up to 12 months.Providing a high standard of advice to the Policy Manager, Maori Sector Partnerships, other key stakeholders within Te Puni Kokiri and across the wider public sector.
You will help to shape and influence policy and will:Uplift capability within the team through coaching and mentoring kaimahi, and promoting a culture of continuous feedbackProvide credible, evidence-based advice anchored in the context of iwi, hapu, whanau and Maori as it applies to Maori Sector PartnershipsConduct thorough and detailed analysis of complex policy issues to understand their implications and identify potential solutionsWork collaboratively with peers at Te Puni Kokiri and with other key stakeholders across government.
Build and maintain strong relationships with Maori entities and organisations.Working with and processing key pieces of legislation including the Maori Purposes Bill and capturing Maori organisations responses to the legislation.
Apply and advise on te ao Maori and Te Tiriti based frameworks as they relate to policy.Provide advice and support to Senior and Executive Leadership teams, Ministers and key stakeholdersThe appointment range for this role is between $104,056 to $115,617 per annum and the salary will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills and experience.Mou | About youAn experienced policy professional, you will have previous experience in a government policy shop where te ao Maori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi frameworks underpin your mahi.
You may be familiar with legislation and have lead and have collated response from Maori organisations to legislation and policy development in the past.
You will have:The mix of knowledge, skills, practices, and behavioursrequired by a modern policy practitioner to be able to deliver quality policy adviceExperience mentoring kaimahi, and building their knowledge base and skills, preferably within a Policy timaAn understanding of, and ability to prioritise the flow of information and manage complex policy issuesSome knowledge of the legal frameworks in AotearoaProven ability to lead and manage cross-government policy development.
Prior experience in a government policy settingHave highly developed communication skills, including written.
Experienced in building key stakeholder relationships.
Skilled at explaining complex issues clearly to diverse audiences, including non-technical expertsAre comfortable in a te ao Maori environment and are comfortable in situations where tikanga is observed.
