The infrastructure is made up of aids to navigation, maritime distress and safety radio, satellite local user terminal and other Search and Rescue systems.Te tunga | The roleThis is an exciting opportunity responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of 'fit for purpose' Safety Systems infrastructure and technology, which includes maritime and aviation safety systems, in support of search and rescue and maritime safety in the areas of reduction, readiness and response.
You will be involved in a range of continuous improvement projects, providing project support and operational technical advice.
Safety Systems and Infrastructure also contribute at an international level for safety and SAR related topics that are a priority to New Zealand, and you will contribute to this.You will support the Lead Advisor Safety Systems, to provide specialist insight on a range of technical, strategic/relationship management matters relating to maritime and aviation safety systems and infrastructure in the areas of navigation, communications and SAR both within RCCNZ and Safety Systems, across Maritime New Zealand and the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand.
This will also involve developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) with respect to the Global Aeronautical Distress and Safety System (GADSS), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with respect to the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) and the International Cospas-Sarsat Satellite-Aided Search and Rescue Programme.You will also:Identify, research and investigate new technologies nationally and internationally which could be beneficial to MNZDevelop industry networks and connections, proactively seeking out partnerships which would be beneficial to MNZDevelop knowledge and understanding of international rules and legislation and how that applies to Safety Systems and Infrastructure in NZ both now and in the future.This is an exciting opportunity to further your career working with some highly experienced search and rescue professionals and technical experts in safety systems and response.Nou te rourou | What you bring Strong technical capability and inquisitive nature;Critical thinker with the ability to identify future issues and opportunities in the Safety Systems and Infrastructure spaceProven success working with a range of technical specialist teams to deliver quality products and systemsStrong interest in developing your knowledge and experience of maritime communications and SAR technologyProven success working with technical specialist teams on projectsStrong systems knowledge, database, document management systems, MS Office and cloud-based toolsKnowledge of emergency management or response environments idealWell-developed written and verbal communication skillsPositive team player with a high degree of self-motivationAble to travel and work for periods of time domestically and internationally.Mou | For you Maritime NZ recognises and respects te Tiriti o Waitangi and we are committed to working with Maori to build strong, meaningful and enduring relationships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
