Mo tatou Ratonga | About our Service

We are the Mental Health and Addictions Service arm of Health New Zealand | Te Whatu - Waikato. Home Based Treatment sits within our Crisis Assessment and Home Treatment (CAHT) team.

The Crisis Team provides support to service users experiencing acute crisis in the community. They are responsible for the assessment and provision of short term care for people in crisis. They are experts in acute care management and operate 24 hours a day, 7 days per week.

As part of the interventions available, Home Based Treatment (HBT) offers an alternative to hospital admission and is available from 8am to 8pm 7 days per week. Our goal is always to support service users in the least restrictive environment, and so if hospital admission is being considered for a service user, we encourage that HBT is considered first. HBT is a multidisciplinary service that provides a comprehensive and intensive package of intervention for up to 3 weeks.
