Support Worker - Palmerston North (Behavioural Support) Full time position available in Aokautere Palmerston North Flexibility to work a range of rostered shifts is required - a fortnightly roster will include morning, evening and wake over/awake night shifts. Mo te tunga | About the role As a Support Worker, you will be supporting people with intellectual disabilities to enjoy great lives at home and as part of their community.

We are looking for Support Workers to work with individuals who have complex behavioural support needs. Dealing with challenging behaviour can be tough, but with the right approach, we can make a difference, promote positive behaviours, and create a supportive environment for people to thrive.

Your role involves helping the people we support to:

Recognise and respond to emotional overwhelm safely. Grow their independence and learn skills for daily living such as using public transport, getting a job, cooking a meal, and emotional regulation. Manage their daily routines e.g. shower, get dressed, take medication, eat a meal. Pursue their goals, interests, and hobbies. Stay healthy and make positive choices about their lifestyle. Have strong connections with their whanau and community. Previous experience is preferred, but more importantly, we are looking for someone with life experience and the right attitude. It is essential that you have the skills to build good relationships with the people we support.

Previous experience supporting people with complex behavioural support needs is preferred but not essential. Flexibility to work rostered shifts including days, evenings, sleepovers, and weekends. A calm nature and confidence to work with challenging behaviours. Comfortable and proficient in using computers and tablets daily. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Physical fitness to provide necessary physical support. A Full NZ driver's license.
