About the role | Korero mo te turanga
In this role, you will need to be able to facilitate optimum learning environments for students, engage in high-quality teaching and supervision, and contribute to the evolving School research culture.
You'll teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and have the exciting opportunity to assume responsibility for the leadership, co-ordination and delivery of our Design courses.
We embrace practice-led, as well as research-informed, approaches to teaching - delivering innovative design studio and theory learning where the student experience is optimised.
Our practice-led paradigm for curriculum engages students in the exploration of visual communication strategies and techniques across a variety of media and is designed to prepare students to enter the field as competitive creative professionals and researchers nationally and internationally.
Research is well supported within the School and it is expected that over time you will seek external research funding, engage with government, business, the professions and/or the community, and contribute to School/Faculty activities.
Interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities also exist across the School.
We offer an excellent research environment, support and the Faculty also offers a variety of contestable research funds.
About you | Korero mou
We are looking for a Digital Designer whose research and practice is aligned with Communication and Experience Design.
As a hybrid practitioner, educator and researcher you need to have hands-on tools knowledge in digital design media and processes for moving image, motion graphics and interactive elements.
Experience with designing graphic systems for digital design outcomes, including branding, storytelling, and wayfinding is required to teach studio and technical courses.
Previous lecturing experience delivering innovative digital design studio briefs, design research methodologies and theory learning and teaching is also critical.
Your research interests will be aligned to a practice oriented portfolio in the contemporary aspects of digital design for communication and experience design and you will publish actively in these specialised fields.
A collaborative, open and engaging attitude that is flexible to School requirements is essential.

Qualification

Preferred - Doctorate in Communication Design and Digital Design

Research And Scholarship

Research interests that align with (and have the basis of a solid research pipeline within) contemporary aspects of Communication Design and Digital Design
Expertise in design research methodologies
Proven research track record with quality academic publications and creative practice
Ideally, previous success in external funding bids

Teaching And Learning

Previous lecturing experience with evidence of curricula development and academic quality assurance
Teaching experience must include delivering innovative design studio and theory (and ideally experience supervising Masters and/or PhD students)

Practice Oriented Skills

High level of technical skills and experience with adobe software for digital design, typography and motion graphics, graphic design for print, and UX/UI practices
High level of organisational and time management skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Start Date:
As soon as possible, ideally February 2025
Salary:
Commensurate with relevant experience and skills and aligned with the appropriate step in AUT's academic pay scales (Lecturer $89,007 - $105,929, Senior Lecturer $109,051 - $128,559).
