Early Childhood Education (ECE) Centre ManagerTe Tawharau o Te Whakatohea is situated in Opotiki, a coastal town in the sunny Bay of Plenty.Previously to our recent settlement process in 2024, Te Tawharau o Te Whakatohea was known as The Whakatohea Maori Trust Board, established in 1952.
The Trust's primary role was to administer the assets of the trust on behalf of its beneficiaries in accordance with the Maori Trust Board Act 1955.The Trust's long-term vision, Ko te kai hoki i Waiaua - to be the food bowl that feeds the world, confirms the Trust's entrepreneurial spirit, grounded in matauranga (knowledge) which weaves together our future strategic aspirations of being well educated, healthy, socially connected, economically and commercially sound; and living in a thriving environment.With the recent changes comes a period of growth, as we see the return of significant assets and a newly appointed Board, that will continue to support the numerous developments currently underway and pave the way for growth into the future.
It is an exciting time to be a part of our continued success story.Te aheinga - The opportunity:Reporting to the Education Group Manager of Te Pou Oranga o Te Whakatohea Charitable Trust, the Centre Manager will fulfil the role of professional leader by managing, motivating and supporting the teaching team to ensure we meet centre compliance and operational requirements.End to end management of the ECE and its employeesLead the development and review of centre teaching programs and procedures and provide professional leadership and management to the teamEnsure compliance with the ECE Code of Ethics among the teaching teamCompletion of reports and record keeping for the Ministry of EducationDemonstrate a thorough understanding of current approaches to effective teaching and learning across the curriculumDevelop knowledge and support the teaching team in the use of Te Reo, tikanga Maori, Treaty of Waitangi and WhakatoheatangaEstablish and foster relationships with and between teachers, whanau and childrenA recognised Early Childhood Education Qualification Diploma of Teaching (ECE) or Bachelor of Teaching and Learning (ECE), current practice certificate with full teacher registration.Previous experience in a similar role, as a Team Lead or Manager within Education.Experience developing education and work development programs, within a Kaupapa Maori context.Excellent communication and writing skillsCommitment to continually improve work performance, processes and procedures.Knowledge of Te Whakatohea me ona tikanga would be highly regarded.If your skills and experience match this role, please APPLY NOW
