Established in 2014, Te Tari operates as an independent arms-length body within the Ministry of Justice, with its own work programme and priorities determined by the Chief Justice, President of the Court of Appeal, and Chief High Court Judge. Te Haeata/The OpportunityWe seek a gifted communicator and educator for the role of Courts Education Officer in the Office of the Chief Justice.
Reporting into Manager Judicial Communications and Engagement, the Courts Education Officer is responsible for delivering educational outreach programs that increase public understanding of the judiciary and the courts.
This includes the Supreme Court tour programme and the Supreme Court outreach programme with law schools.
The role involves working closely with schools, universities, community groups, and other stakeholders to promote constitutional literacy and foster a greater appreciation of the courts' role in society.Key Responsibilities:Develop, co-ordinate, promote and deliver the Supreme Court/Old High Court tours programme for school groups, tertiary students, community groups, dignitaries and public servants.Develop tours that align with school curriculum topics, and create online resources to help teachers prepare for tours and provide further information for visiting schools, or that can be used by schools unable to attend in person.Develop visitor resources to make the tours more engaging, such as display materials on the history and role of the courts, and activity sheets for young visitors.Evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs and make improvements based on feedback.Coordinate the Supreme Court university outreach programme with New Zealand's law schools.Explore ways in which the judiciary can support civics education initiatives and engage with external agencies and groups to promote understanding of the role and work of the courts.Organise and promote public information events and open days at the Supreme Court and other courts.Assist with judicial events, as required. O pukenga/Skills and ExperienceNo candidate will meet every single desired qualification.
