Overview VHB's Transit and Rail Co-op - Boston, MA is designed to introduce students into the workforce.
The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment.
The intern program is designed to round out participants' academic learning with real-world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path.Co-op terms generally run from July - December 2025.VHB has a specialized and dedicated Transit & Rail Practice providing integrated services for commuter rail, heavy rail, light rail, intercity/high-speed rail, freight rail, bus rapid transit, bus, and streetcar systems in urban, suburban, and rural environments.
Our team assists transportation agencies through all phases of a project with environmental documentation; station, facility, and right-of-way design; transit/rail structures; rail systems; planning; cost estimation; grant submittals; demand estimation; and operations analysis and simulation.
We provide all phases of transit and rail planning, engineering, and operations analysis to help bring these projects to life.
Responsibilities Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely mannerAssist in development of planning and engineering solutionsAssist in data mining and visualizationPerform analysis of data or calculationsPerform field data collection and other on-site project support activitiesPrepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports Skills and Abilities Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsTeam-oriented with strong capability to work independentlySelf-motivated with attention to detailA strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieveKnowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GISKnowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required Qualifications Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, planning or a related fieldStrong interest in transportation, land development, urban design, real estate, environmental, institutional, or energy sectorAbility to work on a computer remotely if necessaryAbility to travel locally and complete fieldwork if necessaryWe are VHB
