Community and Justice Liaison Nurse at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley, Wellington Hospital Nau mai, haere mai ki Te Whatu Ora - Capital, Coast & Hutt Valley District Location: Wellington, Porirua Service: MHAIDS, Regional Forensic Service Contract: Permanent, Full time (1 FTE) Salary: Step 2 - Step 8 Nursing scale PSA - based on skills and experience Our registered nurses provide liaison and consultation to and between Courts, Prisons, Justice Departments, Mental Health, Police, Government and Community Agencies on mental health and addiction matters and the management of associated problems within the identified agency.
The nurse utilises clinical and medical-legal knowledge and skills to provide a quality rapid assessment of those persons identified as having or who may have a mental health and addiction problem.
The regional arm of Te Korowai-Whariki includes the Central Regional Forensic Mental Health Service which operates at the interface between Mental Health Services and the Justice System and works within the following settings - prisons, courts, community, and inpatient.
The Service offers assessment and rehabilitation services to defendants charged with criminal offences and offenders who have psychiatric illness.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate professional, legal and ethical responsibilities and cultural safety.
This includes being able to demonstrate knowledge and judgement, being accountable for own actions and decisions, while promoting an environment that maximises patient safety, independence, quality of life and health.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate interpersonal and therapeutic communication with clients, other nursing staff, and inter-professional communication and documentation.
A significant part of this role is client assessment and managing client care, which is responsive to clients' needs, and supported by nursing knowledge and evidence-based research.
