We have an opportunity for an Analyst to join our Modelling & Research Team on a parental leave cover to April 2026.
This role would suit someone who is interested in applying their quantitative skills to help shape the Treasury's understanding of the New Zealand economy and deliver insightful analytical and monitoring of macroeconomic issues.
Prior experience with overlapping generations models and postgraduate study in macroeconomics would be favourably regarded.

In this role you will be: Working in a strongly collaborative and supportive team undertaking analysis on the New Zealand economyLeading and contributing to the development of analysis and forecasts on the New Zealand economy, and broader macroeconomic and fiscal policy issuesProviding quantitative analysis and monitoring reportsWorking across teams to provide technical/modelling support and shaping debate.This important work takes a special kind of person with a passion for making a difference and getting things done.

The specific experience, skills, and qualities that will help you succeed in this role include:
A post-graduate tertiary qualification in macroeconomics or related disciplines (economics, statistics or equivalent)Demonstrated experience in a macro policy team delivering analytical projects and working collaboratively with othersGreat communication skills with the ability to engage with non-technical audiences to convey findingsExperience working with time series econometrics or statistical analysis would be an advantageProgramming experience would be an advantage.We would encourage applications even if you do not meet all of the requirements outlined above.
