Port of Auckland plays an essential role in our economy, delivering the things we need and enjoy. Nearly three-quarters of the port's inbound cargo stays within the Auckland and Upper Waikato region.The position of a Stevedore at the Port of Auckland includes several roles. These roles include Lashers, Machinery Operators, and Crane Operators. All of these roles are critical in the safe and efficient movement of cargo between ships, trains, and trucks. There is no port without Stevedores; they are the core of our container handling operations.Lasher: Lashers work onboard ships and are responsible for locking and unlocking the equipment that secures containers on the ship.Machinery Operator: Machinery operators operate 70-ton machines that move containers throughout the terminal between cranes, trucks, and trains.Lash Team Lead: Leading a team of up to 30 people to support operations on the ship and cranes.Crane Operator: Portainer Crane operators use state-of-the-art machinery to move containers on and off the ships.Supervisor/Manager: There are a range of supervisory and management opportunities within the container terminal team as well as other areas of the business. These roles range from shift supervisors to operations supervisors, duty, and operation managers.We are dedicated to helping you establish a career as a Stevedore in our container handling operations and are actively looking for individuals to join our team as Lashers to begin their career journey with us.The Lasher role provides a great opportunity to progress into other skilled roles such as Straddle Operator, Crane Operator, and Supervisor.A Lasher is responsible for securing and releasing the locking equipment on board a ship that secures containers for safe transportation. This is a physically demanding position that includes working at heights, during all weather conditions, and in confined spaces.No prior Lashing experience is necessary as full training will be provided; however, you will need previous work experience.The role requires working on a rotating roster across 7 days, including public holidays and weekends, with 8-12 hour shifts. Shift times start at 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
