The CSU also benefits from exceptional working relationships with Customs technical and investigation teams.
This enables the unit to be a formidable opponent against OCGs, disrupting international syndicates and providing evidence to secure custodial sentences against those bringing harm and illicit goods into New Zealand.We are offering a unique opportunity for trained surveillance operators to join the existing, highly performing Customs Surveillance Unit.About this role | Mo tenei turanga mahiYou will be providing specialised surveillance support for investigating a range of border related offences.
You must be able to work calmly under pressure and be able to adapt to evolving situations.
An affinity with technology is also important.
You will need to follow operational instructions and have sound decision-making skills.The nature of the work you will be involved in requires you to be available to work unpredictable and long hours at times.
The unit has a national remit, so there will be times when you will be required to work away from home for extended periods, and at short or no notice.
With that in mind, it's important to talk to those closest to you about the unpredictable nature of the role.
The job is demanding, and we require a high level of commitment to achieve operational success; however, the role has a level of flexibility in and around operational needs and requirements.The team is based in Auckland.
If you're not based in or near Auckland, you'll need to be willing to relocate.The salary is $78,371 - $98,413 with an additional unpredictable hours allowance of $16,109.About you | Ko wai koe …In this Senior Customs Officer Grade 2 position, you will be required to possess a greater level of surveillance experience to utilise and draw from.
You will be coaching and mentoring new surveillance officers, assisting with training and assessment commitments, and providing support to other leaders.
Excellent communication skills are essential as you will be dealing with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
As surveillance work is linked to serious offences, you will need to be proficient in understanding and applying legislation.
You should have a proven track record of successfully and safely leading surveillance teams on a wide range of training and operational tasks and deployments.
You will be prepared and comfortable with making decisions and issuing commands to achieve operational and intelligence objectives, using your specialist knowledge to lead the team where required.Along with being an exceptional surveillance officer, you should possess a passion for continuous improvement, self-development, and the development of others.
We want you to help us grow and augment the unit through the assessment, training, and mentorship of new staff members.To Be Considered For This Position, You MustHave successfully passed the Customs Surveillance Course (or equivalent course, such as the NZ Police or SIS/Military courses or international equivalents)Be an experienced surveillance officer, able to lead operational activity and coach and mentor team membersHave a full and unrestricted NZ driver's licenceBe able to work 'unpredictable hours'.
This includes working outside of usual working hours, working extended hours, and being rostered to cover on-call periods.Be available for deployment at short notice to any location nationallyBe capable of passing a surveillance skills assessmentBe able to pass a fitness test, drug test, and medicalBe able to obtain and maintain an organisational security clearance, and a Top Secret level security clearance.You must be able to obtain and maintain a high-level security clearance.
Ordinarily to obtain this level of clearance candidates must have a 10 year checkable background in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken.
