This role is offered as a full-time, two-year position based in the GRI at the University of Canterbury (UC), with the support of the Ngai Tahu Research Centre (NTRC), as part of a MethaneSat research project led by the National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA).This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with Ngai Tahu, the principal iwi (tribe) of Te Waipounamu - the South Island of Aotearoa/ New Zealand, to lead the mapping of methane emissions from tribal farming initiatives using a range of data including novel MethaneSat remote sensing imagery and ground-based data.
You will be working in Indigenous Maori contexts, consequently a degree of cultural competency, or previous experience working with Indigenous cultures will be highly valued, along with the ability to engage cross-culturally with openness and respect.You will make use of and develop data analysis methods such as modelling and machine learning.
