The rugged and wild coastline is home to more than 12 world-class surf breaks, wildlife galore, and Taranaki is a place where you can ski and surf in the same day.For a more relaxing experience, there are many beautiful walks, bike rides (bush, coastal or mountain) filled with flora and fauna. Not forgetting the iconic coastal walkway, art trails, festivals, and award-winning museums and galleries alongside a thriving café culture.Hawera Hospital opened in 2002. The purpose-built facility includes a seven bed ED and 17 Bed inpatient ward (Medical and AT&R). The Hawera Emergency Department provides a 24-hour service for the 30,000 population of South Taranaki and sees approximately 15,000 patients per year. There is a four-bed primary birthing unit and a large number of specialist outpatient clinics are held in Hawera.The Hospital has a well-equipped laboratory service and a brand new Siemens machine in the radiology department.
