We work collaboratively with iwi, Government, not-for-profits and businesses to achieve outcomes that benefit our community.Te aheinga - The opportunityThis is an exciting new role and opportunity to join a the Cultural Experiences Public Program team and work with other like-minded curators and Kaiako to design and deliver public engagement programs that are responsive to the needs of the Maori and Taranaki communities. Part of a team strengthening relationships between Puke Ariki and the Gallery with local iwi and hapu, you will advance the delivery of Te Ao Maori and Te Reo programs engaging audiences with toi, tribal and regional histories, and ideas of the past, present and future. If you have a passion to create, communicate and provide impactful Maori public programmes with maanakitanga and kaitiakitanga we want to hear from you.Tino takohanga - Key responsibilities:- In this new role you will develop, communicate and deliver impactful Maori public programmes working closely with the Museum curators and the Govett-Brewser Art Gallery-Len Lye Centre team, in accord with strategies, priorities and plans- You'll consult internally with curators and team members and externally with iwi, hapu and other groups to determine relevant program content, participants and forms of events for different age and interest groups- A key part of the role is to collaborate with team members to plan, coordinate and communicate the overall program and provide content for marketing and communication to relevant participants- You will have a high standard of working relationships and engage in collaboration across the Puke Ariki and the Gallery with Public Programs and Learning team members, and as part of programming across the Cultural Experiences facilities- You will bring a keenness to create and maintain good working relationships with iwi, hapu and whanaui and contribute to a positive team culture- You will plan and deliver events and ongoing programs with manaakitanga and to a high standard, and engage local participants and create positive working relationshipsNga tino pukenga me nga wheako - Essential skills and experience:- Whakapapa Maori preferred- Tertiary qualification in Arts, Maori or Toi Maori Studies, Education, Museum or Cultural Studies or a related field or related experience- Minimum of three years' experience in a gallery or museum educational institution, preferably but not necessarily in public programs- A working proficiency in Te Reo, and experience in applying Matauranga Maori and Te Reo in a museum or gallery context- Knowledge of tikanga and able to practice manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga, maramatanga and whanaungatanga within the role- Demonstrated experience of programming with a focus on public and community engagement, sharing of ideas and knowledge and ability to create community relationships- Knowledge of Nga Toi Maori and/or tribal and iwi histories is an advantage- Proven experience in planning and scheduling events and ability to budget- Excellent writing and public speaking communications- Knowledge of the cultural sector and ability to research program participantsHe aha ai a Taranaki? - Why Taranaki?With the stunning Mt Taranaki as a backdrop and the warm iron sands along our coast, it is no wonder Taranaki is one of the best regions in New Zealand and the world.
