As well as providing Ambulance Services, our programmes and team of over 11,000 staff and volunteers are helping to build strong, resilient communities across the motu; supporting everyone in Aotearoa to live healthier, happier and longer lives.He aha te turanga- About the role:Making over 90,000 trips per year, the St John Health Shuttle is a free community service that transports people to and from essential medical and health-related appointments.
The service is often used by older people, by people who are too unwell to drive a vehicle, and those who cannot access other transport options.Driving a St John Shuttle vehicle, you will be responsible for ensuring clients safely reach their appointments on time.
This volunteer role is highly customer-focused, and whilst some clients may be physically able, others may need assistance.
Therefore, in addition to having a sensitivity toward those who are unwell, being physically fit is also important in this role.Ko wai koe - About you:No prior experience is required; however, there are some essential requirements:For a Driver position: Held a full and clean NZ Drivers Licence for at least 12 months (vehicle may be a manual)Have a clean police recordAbility to commit to one shift rostered per week or fortnightHave excellent communication and problem-solving skillsFriendly, caring and compassionate, with a genuine interest in the well-being of othersBe physically fitPlease note: All appointments are subject to satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks including, but not limited to, medical clearance and driver checks (driver roles only), and police clearance.
For driving roles, you will be required to meet the St John medical standards.In return, we will provide relevant training (including First Aid Level 1), a uniform, ongoing support, and St John membership (which gives free ambulance service for you and immediate family).The best gift anyone can give is 'time'.
