Mo te turanga | About the role As a Maternity Care Assistant you will be involved in:
Supporting our Midwives – assisting with patient care under supervisionCleaning equipment and preparing the birthing roomsBasic baby care (bathing, changing nappies, and settling babies)Assisting women with showering and at meal timesClerical duties and other general duties as required to assist with the smooth running of the departmentBecoming a Maternity Care Assistant is a great opportunity to:
Gain hands-on experience to complement your studiesSet the tone for your future career as a midwifeUnderstand how the maternity ward runs day-to-dayReceive on-the-job support from those who have been in your shoesWe are seeking applications from current midwifery students that are enrolled in a New Zealand Bachelor of Midwifery programme who are dynamic, friendly and can demonstrate a high level of initiative. You will be committed to high standards of practice, be well-organised and have excellent communication skills.
It is important that you are motivated, flexible, and enthusiastic. Experience working with people in a caring capacity is advantageous; however, we are excited to support your entry into the profession.
As a casual employee, you may be asked to complete morning, afternoon, or night shifts, but we will work together to create a great balance for your schedule.

Not only do we get to care for fabulous women and families from all across our diverse region, but we also get to work alongside kind, compassionate, dedicated midwives and other health professionals to provide a safe and positive birthing experience.
Each year we birth around 1,800 babies and work closely with the midwifery and medical schools to give the kind of care our patients deserve.

Utu whanui | Salary range This role falls under the terms and conditions of the MERAS Midwives Collective Agreement (1 February 2024 – 30 April 2025), Maternity Care Assistants Salary Scale, between Step 1 and Step 5, $60,100 to $70,358 per annum, pro rata.
