We do everything we can to make you feel like you matter, because you do.The RoleAs a Senior Lawyer, you will be at the forefront of providing strategic, proactive, and commercially focused legal advice.
You will collaborate with key stakeholders and management on large-scale transactions, corporate partnerships, disputes, and regulatory matters.
This role is perfect for an agile, empowered, and adaptable individual who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Key Responsibilities:Manage and resolve commercial matters, litigation, disputes, and regulatory issues.Deliver commercially focused, top-tier legal advice.Support and mentor team members to foster growth and development.Work closely with the Chief Risk Officer & EM Legal, and senior management to develop legal strategies that align with our objectives.Manage and lead external law firms as needed.Clearly articulate key legal issues and potential risks to senior management and stakeholders.Drive engagement with RBNZ and the FMA, building constructive relationships and leading regulatory submissions.What You Bring:Extensive experience post qualification with a New Zealand Law practicing certificate.Proven experience in high-stakes commercial negotiations.Exceptional ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.Top-tier or mid-tier training, or similar experience in an in-house role within a large, complex organisation.Knowledge of life insurance, NZ regulations, and financial services law.Confidence and sophistication in dealing with Board and senior management.Strong ability to foster and develop relationships and build new connections.Critical SkillsAt Asteron Life, we have identified the following critical skills which are key to success in our culture:Customer Focused: Passionate drive to delight our customers and offer unique solutions that deliver on their expectations.Critical Thinking: Thoughtful process of analysing data and problem-solving to reach a well-reasoned solution.Team Mentality: Partnering effectively to drive our culture and execute on our common goals.Business Acumen: Appreciation and understanding of the financial services industry in order to make sound business decisions.Learning Agility: Openness to new ways of thinking and acquiring new skills to retain a competitive advantage.What Will We Do For You:We offer the freedom to work in a flexible environment, we respect and encourage diversity, and we offer opportunities for training and career advancement.We believe that every day is an opportunity to grow – and we hope to offer our people a career, not just a job.
