Animal-assisted therapy has been shown to promote emotional wellbeing, and contact with gentle animals provides comfort and helps people to be happier. Hato Hone St John has developed a programme to share animal companions within local rest homes, hospitals and schools within the local community.
Therapy Pets is a voluntary programme that enhances the lives of others, and we need your help We are looking for a passionate and driven individual to become a Therapy Pet Team Leader for our Dunedin team. You will work alongside an existing and experienced Team Leader in this role.
You will:
Provide support and mentoring to the team of Therapy Pet Volunteers
Recruit new volunteers, match volunteers and their pets with suitable facilities
Liaise with facilities visited by volunteers
Monthly reporting and liaising with local St John
Organising recognition events and team connects
Please note, this is an unpaid, voluntary position.
Qualifications
Ko wai koe - About you:
This role is flexible and can work around your availability, ideally you will be able to commit at least 2-3 hours per week. You have the option of joining the Therapy Pet volunteers with your pet, but this is not mandatory.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Excellent communication skills, an empathetic personality, and a genuine interest in the well-being of others
Previous team management experience
Administration experience
Love of animals (experience working with animals is a plus)
Competent computer skills
Over 18 years of age
Clean criminal record
