College is seeking an organised, experienced and empathetic Teacher Aide to provide one-on-one support for a Year 10 student at College. This is a part-time, term-time only position (25 hours per week according to the school timetable).
The Teacher Aide should ideally have previous experience in such a role, but alternatively, have transferable skills of a positive, proactive attitude, excellent communication skills and the ability to act as a primary go-to person for our student. Our ideal candidate would enjoy working with children, have a patient disposition and be able to provide a structured approach to learning support. To be successful for this role, it is crucial for us to find the right "fit" for this role and for our student.
Requirements of the role are the abilities to:
Understand and relate to the specific learning and behavioural needs of the student by providing direct support and encouragement.
Clarify and explain instructions and the parameters of these.
Provide a reassuring presence by presenting a patient and calm demeanour.
Support the student's development and ongoing integration and independence by providing positive re-enforcement of the student's self-esteem.
Help manage stressors in the classroom environment.
Assist the student to concentrate and complete classroom work.
Establish a supportive relationship with the student as well as teaching staff and parents.
Contribute to feedback around the student's performance.
Support the student's social skill development.
Reporting to the Head of Department, Learning Centre & ESOL, our Teacher Aides are key members of our learning support team.
