Job DescriptionAbout the roleWe are seeking an experienced and dedicated Technologist to oversee and manage the biological composting processes, including both in-vessel and windrow operations.
The role will require you to ensure that composting and finished product specifications meet customer requirements, quality standards, and environmental compliance.
You'll be working closely with the Operations Team to ensure daily operations run smoothly and meet the expected standards.Key responsibilities include:Direct and coordinate activities associated with in-vessel and open windrow composting processes to optimise breakdown and output quality.Oversee blended media formulations, batching processes and costings to meet customer requirements.Provide day-to-day direction to the Operations Team.Monitor, analyze, and control feedstock material, in-vessel and open windrow composting processes, finished product specifications, and bulk additives.Ensure compliance with NZS 4454 Standard, ISO Standards (9001, 14001), and organic certification (AssureQuality or BioGro).Perform routine monitoring & testing, ensuring compliance with site Resource Consent conditions and operating contract conditions.Manage and maintain the site quality assurance and control systems, ensuring documentation updates and participating in system audits.Investigate and manage quality complaints or non-compliance events and implement corrective actions.Collaborate with the sales and marketing team to respond to customer queries and develop products to meet customer demand.QualificationsTo be successful in the role:The ideal candidate will have a solid background in compost processing or a similar industry, with a strong focus on technical and analytical skills.They should demonstrate effective leadership abilities and a commitment to environmental compliance and sustainability.Tertiary qualification in microbiology, horticulture, or related scienceExperience in compost processing or a similar industryStrong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skillsStrong knowledge on MS office products.Excellent communication, time management, and organisational abilitiesKnowledge of environmental legislation and sustainability practicesLevel 4 management qualification or proven leadership experienceAdditional InformationWhat is in it for me?Growth and development – opportunities for developmentValid and rewarding career pathSubsidised insurance with Southern Cross and discounts on a range of products and services.To apply for this role click "I'm interested"Please note - we do not always work to fixed closing dates and may start considering applications as they are received so we encourage you to apply early.WM is an EEO employer and promotes drug and alcohol-free workplaces.You must be in New Zealand and hold a current work visa / residency or NZ citizenship.
