About The Team Grid Development is the Transpower division, where we shape the future of our Grid for the next 30+ years.
Our Strategic Asset Integration Team plays a key role in defining our transmission asset management strategies, directly impacting Transpower's long-term goals and strategic objectives.
Strategic Asset Integration bridges the gap between asset strategy and organizational plans, ensuring a clear 'line of sight' from our Corporate to Grid Business strategies.
Using a systems thinking approach, the team helps identify the future needs of the grid and works to create a compelling Strategic Asset Management Plan 2023, shaping the future of energy in New Zealand.
The Opportunity - based in either Wellington or Christchurch
You'll be responsible for developing and communicating the asset management strategy for the Transmission Lines Portfolio, ensuring it meets future needs while balancing cost, risk, and performance.
You will: Lead and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop and deliver asset management strategies across the business.
Serve as the go-to guide on transmission line asset strategy, providing technical leadership and guiding decision-making at all levels.
Undertake whole of life economic modelling to help rationalise transmission lines asset management strategies.
Identify and evaluate asset investment and performance opportunities that deliver long-term value, integrating customer, systems, and asset planning.
Drive strategic initiatives that support and enable the successful implementation of our asset management strategies.
The interesting work you'll be involved in, over the next few years will include: Developing our first ever Transmission Lines Asset Management Strategy that will manage transmission lines as a system of assets.
Helping Transpower to prepare for, and respond to, climate change by supporting the delivery of our Climate Adaptation Plan.
You'll work with teams across the company - asset planning, tactical engineering, asset information, operational planning and engineering, grid works planning and delivery, information and communications technologies, environmental, customer, finance and corporate strategy.
Externally the role will build/maintain relationships with contractors, consultants, external equipment and system suppliers.
This is an intellectually challenging and fast-paced role in an organisation central to achieving New Zealand's net-zero carbon goals.

What will you bring?
You'll be someone with Transmission lines and asset management experience, with creative problem-solving skills and strategic vision.
You'll have outstanding verbal and written communication to influence at all levels and be motivated to lead change in the way we manage our asset fleet, decision making processes/frameworks, and as we shift to new technology.
Commercially orientated and customer focused, you'll excel in business writing, translating technical recommendations into long-term strategic plans.
You'll communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, adapting your messaging to both technical and non-technical audiences, internally and externally.
Your CV and cover letter will clearly demonstrate: A degree in Engineering with Chartership or an International Equivalent.
Experience in Transmission Lines design or the design of Transmission Assets.
Demonstrated asset management experience leading to decision making about long term asset investment for Transmission Lines or Transmission Assets.
Highly effective planning and priority setting for yourself and cross-functional teams that you may lead via influence rather than authority.
While not essential, experience in systems engineering and the application of new grid technologies would be advantageous.
