We are seeking a youth mentor who is passionate about inclusive education, and keen to support students aged 6 to 16 years, who are currently disengaged from school, to attend school regularly.

WHO WE ARE HLC/Life to the Max is a community  organisation with a wide spectrum of social service, education and employment programmes.
We work in partnerships, such as with students and their whanau to support Tamariki and Rangatahi to realise their full potential and create their future.
ABOUT THE ROLE This role is in Attendance Services within our Social Services team (Life to the Max).
Our Attendance Mentors predominantly work with schools to manage attendance with an aim to achieve a sustainable return to school for students who are currently disengaged, and enable solutions towards better engagement in education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Work with schools and manage a full caseload of referrals in a timely manner, connecting with students and whanau to create a back-to-school plan.
Liaise and refer effectively with key service providers and statutory agencies which collaborate to help create sustainable plans of re-engagement.
Ensure timely and regular communication with schools on all referred students.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Previous experience working in partnership with young people /whanau  Experience in implementing effective strengths-based interventions and supports for young people and their whanau Ability to apply theoretical concepts and professional knowledge to your day-to-day delivery and communications Knowledge of  local networks, social support systems and local community resources is really important - and collaborating, to help build supports for Tamariki and Rangatahi, and their whanauStrong written and verbal communication skills Computer literacy across Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Experience using data platforms such as client management systems is advantageous (but not required of computer-literate, fast learners)Ability to work cross-culturally and communicate effectively with a broad range of peopleDemonstrate knowledge of and commitment to  tikanga Maori, te reo and Te Tiriti o WaitangiA pre-employment police and safety check, including full vetting in accordance with Vulnerable Children requirements is required for this role - and a current, full NZ driver's licence is essential.
