The ideal candidate will be reliable and have experience working outdoors in rugged terrain and in seasonal weather conditions.
This role will suit a self-motivated person with a strong work ethic and an understanding of Te Ao Maori.Responsibilities and Requirements:Current full Motor vehicle driver's licence (desirable)Passionate about conservationCan demonstrate safe operation of equipmentPrevious experience with conservation workProven ability to work cooperatively as part of a teamAn openness to embrace the values and aspirations of Ngai Tahuwhanui and interest to grow your cultural understanding in te ao MaoriNgati Wheke are the hapu that hold mana whenua and mana moana over Whakaraupo and the surrounding area.
The takiwa of Ngati Wheke reflects the events and deeds of Te Rakiwhakaputa (a Ngai Tahu rangatira of Ngati Kuri descent) and his sons, Manuwhiri and Wheke, who secured their descendants mana whenua rights to the area.
Ngati Wheke acknowledge Ngati Mamoe and Waitaha whakapapa lines as well as Ngai Tahu, due to the intermarriages between Waitaha and Mamoe who inhabited Whakaraupo upon the arrival of Te Rakiwhakaputa.Te Hapu o Ngati Wheke Inc (THoNW; the Runanga) is the modern-day representative structure of Ngati Wheke and represents upwards of 8,000 whanau members.
