Iwi and hapu within our district have told us the importance of reflecting their views and aspirations in Council's planning instruments such as the Long Term Plan and District Plan.
We are seeking a person who will work with iwi and hapu to bring their views and aspirations into the development of those plans and other planning processes within Council.
The role also provides the opportunity to work as part of Council's strategic response to legislative reform, particularly as it relates to kaupapa Maori.

You are a person with sound planning experience who understands the process of developing planning instruments such as the Long Term Plan and District Plan but will also be able to ensure that the views and aspirations of Maori will be captured within the development of those plans.
The opportunity: Work as part of Council's team that is responsible for the review of the District Plan ensuring that kaupapa Maori is incorporated into that work; Ensure Council's strategies, plans and policies as they relate to kaupapa Maori meet Council and statutory requirements; Build sound relationships with Maori to ensure that their views and aspirations are accurately reflected in the planning work that Council does.
Ensure that the response to legislative reform appropriately considers kaupapa Maori.
To set you up for success, you'll have: A tertiary degree in a relevant planning, policy discipline; At least 4 years practical experience in a local government role; Experience in Strategic Engagement, Planning and Policy development as well as project development with a Maori focus; Advanced knowledge in Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori.
