The CR team supports councils with all council governance matters, community engagement, issues management, and conflict resolution and navigates citizen concerns.
Increasingly, CR develops and provides new tools and support to councils to better communicate with the citizens they represent.
The CR team also supports the Senior MNO staff and Elected Executives with special requests related to councils, council leadership and citizens.As part of the CR team, the Community Relations Communications Specialist & Advisor (CR-CSA) will lead the development of communications-related graphics and materials, support councils with communications tools and provide the CR team with council training support.
Will undertake CR projects and promote citizen engagement and involvement within established branch priorities and goals.
The CR-CSA will regularly engage with MNO leadership to identify opportunities to advance council and MNO priorities, focusing on council governance and branch communications.
The CR-CSA will also work collaboratively with staff from other branches to address issues related to MNO councils.
The CR-CSA reports to the Community Relations Manager within the Self-Government Strategy Branch.What you will be doing:Support communications tools and needs of the Community Relations team and the Self-Government Strategy branch as required.Make a priority and lead in branch-related graphics, branding, and designing communications and training materials, including presentations.Drafting and editing memos, briefing notes, and website content.Work independently and with the CR manager, CR team members, and the Director on complex initiatives and provide recommendations for solutions and resolutions to issues.Collaborate with senior Community Relations staff working on strategic projects such as training coordination, communicating significant MNO changes to councils and providing the highest levels of support during the annual general assembly.Promptly manage complex political, governance, confidential, and sensitive issues with tact, discretion, maturity, and judgment.Support council-centric projects such as Zoom webinars, town halls, annual general meetings, and other council engagement meetings.Develop, review and or facilitate council training and workshops.Build strong relationships with the community, other MNO employees and branches, the PCMNO and other elected officials.Qualifications:Bachelor's or Master's in Communications, graphics design or related education is preferred.A combination of completion of Post-Secondary Education and Experience may be considered in lieu of the above.Minimum three to five years of work experience in a related role.Demonstrated ability to write high-quality reports and design professional presentations.Demonstrated competency with graphics and creating materials.Demonstrated experience with social media and developing website content.Demonstrated ability to acquire and expand knowledge quickly and to be flexible in a dynamic environment.Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and assess changing priorities.Demonstrated ability to assess situations and problem-solve independently.Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision.Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal.A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard Microsoft, Adobe and graphics software.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to a senior management audience.Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture.Strong organizational skills.Effective communicator, public speaking skills, and ability to support and facilitate training or presentations.Ability to contribute to and develop plans for strategic, short or long-term projects.Ability to learn new platforms and software quickly.Must be an effective team member with strong collaboration skills.The ability to travel and flexibility to work evenings and some weekends.Bilingualism with French or Michif (considered an asset).Applicants selected for an interview will be asked to provide examples of their work (graphics, training materials, and PowerPoint presentations).AODA StatementThe Métis Nation of Ontario commits to providing accommodation as required by the Ontario Human Rights Act, unless to do so would cause undue hardship.
