Description At Scarecrow Café, we believe in creating exceptional food that nourishes both body and soul. We're looking for a motivated and fast-learning Commis Chef who has a passion for food and wants to take the next step in their culinary career. If you're ready to develop your skills and progress your journey into a Chef de Partie (CDP) or Sous Chef role, we'd love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities: Assist with food prep, chopping, washing, and organizing ingredients for the kitchen team.
Support the chefs in maintaining an efficient, clean, and safe kitchen environment.
Ensure that food is stored and handled according to strict hygiene and safety standards.
Contribute to the preparation of daily specials and menu items, working closely with the kitchen team.
Assist in food plating and presentation, ensuring quality and consistency.
Manage stock rotation and help maintain an organized kitchen inventory.
What We're Looking For: Minimum 3 years of kitchen experience—you must have a solid foundation in a busy kitchen environment, ideally within a café or restaurant setting.
A motivated and quick learner, with the drive to develop your skills and progress into more senior kitchen roles (CDP or Sous Chef).
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
A passion for food, quality ingredients, and creating exceptional dishes.
Must have residency in New Zealand or a valid New Zealand work visa (Note: we are not an Immigration accredited employer).
A positive attitude and the ability to work collaboratively in a close-knit team.
Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
