Potential sub-specialty interests would include craniofacial, neurovascular, and spine. However, all applicants would be considered.As a senior medical officer/consultant, you will be responsible for providing a high standard of clinical practice and expertise to the patients under your care. It is essential that you are eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. You will be known by your peers as someone who is able to work within a multi-disciplinary environment, engaging with various individuals from different backgrounds. You will also be expected to participate in the supervision and instruction of junior doctors within the service.The successful candidate will be joining a team of 5 Neurosurgeons and 2 Clinical Nurse Specialists.The Neuroscience Service provides regional/tertiary specialist assessment and treatment for people with trauma and diseases affecting neurological function.The coverage area is from Blenheim in the South to Hawkes Bay and over to Taranaki in the North. The service collaborates with other services, particularly Neurology, Orthopaedics, ENT, and Plastic Surgeons, in providing treatment to various groups of patients.These services are provided on an inpatient basis at Wellington Hospital and also on an outpatient basis at Wellington, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, and Hastings.Vocationally registered Neurosurgeon with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)FRACS or equivalent qualification and be able to register with the MCNZWork in collaboration with a multidisciplinary teamProvide acute and elective clinical care and supervision across outpatient, inpatient, and theatre servicesParticipate in an acute on-call rosterParticipate in relevant service and clinical meetingsRelevant experience and trainingCapital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region.
