We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Data Scientist to join our team here in Wellington until 31st July 2025.
About the role As a data scientist in our team, you will play a pivotal role in driving analytical projects and fostering client relationships.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to: Data Science Leadership: Take a lead role in our team, working collaboratively with our data science team, spearheading analytical projects, and employing robust methodologies for meeting client needs.
Technically proficient: Apply excellence in how data is approached and analysed in programming languages such as SQL, R, Python or SAS.
Culture: Contribute to the creation of a stimulating and collaborative team environment.
Communication: Be a critical voice on delivering analysis to the project team and clients.
Project Management: Support the delivery and management of high-quality projects.
About you You'll have experience in a similar role, and will bring: Strong experience on a wide range of client-facing projects, ideally but not limited to the social sector.
A passion for using data for the greater good.
Strong experience working with various datasets, these may include social data, research, survey or administrative data.
Strong experience working in the Stats NZ IDI or in a domain area such as Education, Health, Justice or similar preferable.
Sound programming habits and practice, including version control and documentation.
Willing to share your work – whether internally with clients and colleagues, or externally through platforms such as our website, case studies, GitHub or at forums and presentations.
Excellent programming capability in either R, SQL, Python or SAS.
Strong proficiency in statistical techniques and concepts.
Flexibility and adaptability to new and varied working situations.
Excellent written and interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
Ability to foster a healthy, stimulating and collaborative work environment.

Salary range $95,000 - $130,000 pro rated to fixed term (negotiable).
