The Media, Film and Communication Programme has a growing reputation as a centre for scholarly excellence. The programme sits within the Division of Humanities and offers two Majors/Minors in Film and Media Studies and Communication Studies at the levels of BA, BA(Hons), Dip Grad, MA (Taught and by Coursework) and PhD. Our students explore a wide range of subjects, including indigenous, popular and alternative media, genres, audiences, film festivals, documentary and much more. Te mahi/The role We are seeking to appoint an outstanding Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Film and Media Studies to join our intellectual community Papaho, Whitiahua, Parokoroko/the Media, Film and Communication programme at the University of Otago, which is located in Otepoti/Dunedin in Te Wai Pounamu, the stunning South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. The role is a full time, permanent position. The successful candidate will play a leading role in teaching and curriculum development at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, be involved in postgraduate supervision, and carry out a programme of independent research. In this role you will be expected to develop and teach courses in our taught MA, Honours, and Undergraduate programmes. You should have an excellent research profile and experience teaching any of the following areas: Indigenous Media Television Studies Celebrity Studies American Cinema Video Essays Film Festivals Audience Studies We welcome applications from outside New Zealand. We particularly welcome applications from Maori and Pasifika scholars with research interests in any area of Film and Media Studies. The Media, Film and Communication Programme is committed to strengthening its curriculum and research in matauranga Maori and Pasifika and to supporting the University of Otago's Maori Strategic Framework and Pacific Strategic Framework. Ka pukeka me ka wheako/Your skills and experience The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a strong disciplinary grounding in Film and Media with a PhD in Film and/or Media as well as: An excellent research profile and a record of publishing high-quality research. A strong record of success securing grants and/or developing projects and networking with international and/or national researchers. Demonstrated ability to develop curriculum and teach core courses in Film and Media studies with a well-developed teaching portfolio. A commitment to contribute their own specialist courses. Success supervising the research projects of undergraduate (Honours), postgraduate and PhD students. A commitment to developing collaborative working relationships with colleagues and to supporting the University's Maori, Pacific, and Sustainability strategic frameworks. Experience mentoring junior colleagues in research, teaching and service. Commitment to upholding values, tikanga, kawa and traditions as guided by Ngai Tahu, as mana whenua in the region and broad knowledge of the cultural traditions of other iwi/hapu. The appointment range for this appointment is: Senior Lecturer: $112,482 to $138,182 Associate Professor: $143,671 to $157,331 The University of Otago is a research-intensive university, with a long history of excellence.
