We provide a wide range of services, including Community Law, Whanau Support, Housing Navigation, Housing First, Open Arms Day Centre, Social Supermarket, Food Rescue, and Community Development. Our mission is to empower whanau by challenging injustice, inspiring change, and leading innovation. At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to whanau wellbeing and aspirations.As a Kaiatawhai, you will provide essential onsite and outreach support to individuals experiencing homelessness or those at immediate risk. You will be part of a collaborative team at Open Arms, creating a safe, welcoming space while helping whanau access support services.Full-time, 37.5 hours per weekPermanent roleRostered Monday to Saturday (5 days per week)Based in WhangareiKey Responsibilities:Act as kaitiaki of the Open Arms hub, coordinating common areas and ensuring a welcoming, safe, and clean environment for whanau.Provide kitchen support and help maintain an efficient, clean dining area.Offer whanaungatanga and advocacy for people experiencing homelessness, helping them navigate support systems both at the hub and in the community.Work closely with external agencies, social service providers, and community groups to connect whanau with additional resources.Ensure services are delivered in line with Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, maintaining high standards of confidentiality and care.Contribute to administrative tasks, incident reporting, and daily team debriefs to ensure the smooth running of the Open Arms hub.What We're Looking For:Relevant experience in the health, social service, or community sector.Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to support whanau in a respectful and empathetic manner.The ability to de-escalate situations and manage conflict with a calm, professional approach.Previous experience working with mental health and addictions is an advantage.A demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and kaupapa Maori values.Strong administrative skills, including report writing, referrals, and incident management.Knowledge of local social services and housing organisations is an advantage.NZ Citizenship and a full New Zealand driver's licence.If you are motivated to empower whanau and contribute to our kaupapa, we'd love to hear from youHow to Apply:To apply for this role, please submit your CV and cover letter, highlighting your relevant experience and why you are passionate about this position.
