Working closely with the Tactical Engineering Group, the Substations teams develop projects with an emphasis on cost-effectiveness and efficiency, ensuring that grid requirements are met, and risks managed.About The OpportunityIn this high-profile technical leadership role you'll play a key part in the technical leadership and decision-making process regarding what, and how work is carried out on the national grid. Reporting to the Tactical Engineering Substations Manager you'll join three other principal engineers and be part of Substation Leadership team which covers Project Engineering and Standards.Based in Wellington, Auckland, or Christchurch you'll enjoy a wide variety of work as you:Mentor and coach interns, graduates, and colleagues, conveying complex technical concepts simply to enhance understanding and foster technical career development.Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide clear technical direction aligned with business strategy.Navigate funding and regulatory implications of decisions, making sound technical and commercial recommendations to our executive leadership team and senior managers.Support the development and maintenance of standards and processes, ensuring legal compliance and timely review of project dispensations.Encourage and support team efforts, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to a culture of constructive feedback and enterprise-wide.What will you bring?We are keen to hear from you if you think strategically and are passionate about feasible engineering solutions, capability building and eager to make a significant impact on New Zealand's energy future.To be shortlisted, your CV and cover letter will clearly demonstrate:An engineering degree (ideally electrical) and registration as a Chartered Professional Engineer or internal equivalent.15 years or more significant experience in substation engineering.Demonstrated experience in leading, developing, and inspiring others, and on complex assignments.Well-developed communication and influencing skills.
